As you’d expect from a 3D platformer, Astro Bot contains hundreds of collectibles for you to find. The contrast between Astro Bot and Concord this week alone is absolutely wild. A whirl of bots to rescue, of loving Playstation references, of deep cuts like Ape Escape and more recent stars, who get outings I don’t really want to ruin. It’s boss fights when you expected them and boss fights when you absolutely didn’t. There are jokes about tech demo ducks in here, then, but there’s also the sense the whole thing is, on some level, a huge tech demo. It’s a sustained tech demo, one that never runs out of new wonders to show you, new marvels to fling at you and swiftly discard. Previous Astro Bot games have been employed to showcase new bits of kit.

Every power is interesting, has a meaningful impact on the level it’s a part of, and feels like it unlocks a new way to play. While some return from previous Astro outings and others are quite standard, there is a unique flair to how they feed into the level design here. Though completing G28 will spawn new ones within the same solar system, there are also hidden mini-levels. You can unearth these by flying into the comets and meteors scattered around, especially once you’ve completed most of the bigger main levels in a zone.

Filled with references to hardware throughout PlayStation’s history and boasting an abundance of cameo appearances from popular characters, Astro’s Playroom celebrated PlayStation’s history in a unique way. This made Astro not just the new kid on the block, but established the bot as a character integral to the PlayStation brand. This became The Playroom, Team Asobi’s first game.The Playroom came preloaded with the PS4 when it launched back in 2013 and functioned as a showcase of what the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 controller could do. One of the mini games featured was AR Bots, a tech demo-like experience that made it seem as if 40 little robots were inside the DualShock 4. By swiping the touchpad you could throw them into the room and interact with them through the PlayStation Camera in AR, before sucking them back into the controller.

I’ve only spent an hour with it, so far, but I can already say there’s a good chance this will be my GotY. I was smiling like an idiot the entire time and loving every second of it and its charm. The dev that was interviewed even said specifically “I only make kids games” which is confirmed by the age rating of 7. For £60 I want a game I can invest time in to enjoy for at least 2 weeks with a script and story that I will sit and ponder and go “wow” like the original horizon zero dawn or the last of us and remember for years. Astrobot does a great job but even if I am fine with the few that gave 10s then the 9s of those going oh it’s not game of the year material. Same with racing, my favourite racing games are from the past because modern ones suck.

What Are All Special Bots In Astro Bot? Takt – Classical Conductor

Sony proves with Astro Bot that the company can still put out charming action platformers, but the love letter to PlayStation fans fails to include features that made previous games of the genre so fun to replay. In each level, the main objective is to rescue Astro’s crew, scattered throughout the game’s five worlds and twenty levels. Players also face bosses at the end of each world, which require a certain number of rescued bots to challenge. While playing the levels, the player can find hidden chameleons, which unlock a further 26 challenge levels with two golden Bots to collect.

Our charming main hero is rescued by a smaller ship that looks like a DualSense controller. What remains of the PS5 console crashes onto a small, sandy planet, which will serve as our home base from now on. While ruminating on the game’s score, which is finally balanced between an 8 and 9, it’s the force feedback and audio design which pushed us over the edge. All of this accounts for just a portion of what makes Astro Bot so interesting and fun. The technology is important but the core design and what they do with it is what made me fall in love with the game.

Other than say Ride 4 having a Forza Motorsport 1&2 region mechanic expanded upon I can’t say I’ve come across similar in the racing genre or many others as many devs just copy and paste to compete…. Now the racing genre is just race, time trial, drift/elimination if your lucky. Forget unique modes, slight changes to be like 3 different drift modes or last man standing. Even Wreckfest we can’t even have Flatout style (predecessor) flinging the driver target practice. I can go to TOCA 3/V8 SUpercars 3 or DTM 3 or whatever for PS2 and DS/PSP/PS2-Xbox-PC are all different.
